The launcher updates the game before play. Official artwork, audio and other assets are delivered in incremental ZIP packages, so you only download packages needed for your installation.

Choose the install folder before you run it. The ZIP contains the launcher itself. Put that launcher inside a dedicated Grimhold folder first; the launcher downloads the rest of the game files into that same folder.
In PowerShell, run Get-FileHash .\Grimhold.zip -Algorithm SHA256 and confirm that the result exactly matches the official hash above.

Download the ZIP
Save the Grimhold ZIP somewhere easy to find. If a SHA-256 hash is shown above, you can verify the download before running anything.

Create a dedicated Grimhold folder
The ZIP currently contains the launcher itself, not a pre-made game folder. Create a folder anywhere you want Grimhold to live, then extract the launcher into that folder. Do not extract the launcher loose onto your desktop unless you actually want all downloaded game files placed there.

Run the launcher from that folder
Run the launcher from inside your dedicated Grimhold folder. The launcher downloads the client, DLLs and required asset packages, verifies their SHA-256 hashes, installs changed files, and then starts the game. Future updates normally download only the new packages.
Windows warning
Why Windows may warn you.
The Grimhold launcher is not yet code-signed. Windows SmartScreen may therefore show an “unrecognized app” warning even when the file came directly from the official Grimhold website.
Before continuing, confirm that you downloaded the ZIP from this site and, when available, verify its SHA-256 hash above. The normal Windows flow for an unsigned build is More info followed by Run anyway.
You should not disable SmartScreen or Windows Security to run Grimhold. Code signing is planned specifically to make this first-run experience less alarming.
Optional shortcut
Put Grimhold on your desktop.
After you have placed the launcher inside your dedicated Grimhold folder, right-click the launcher, choose Show more options if necessary, then use Send to → Desktop (create shortcut). Keep the actual Grimhold folder where it is; the desktop item should only be a shortcut.
